A Look at Paper Dolls...
Paper dolls are great fun to collect. Early paper dolls like the "Guzzles" from Colonial Williamsburg are wonderful examples of the art of making paper people. These dolls from Colonial Williamsburg reflect the fashions that were popular at the time they were made, so they allow us to see the clothing and colors of yesterday. In the case of the "Guzzles" you see Mrs. Guzzle "once deemed a beauty" in her elaborate gown, and Mr. Guzzle, who needs to diet a little. Master Guzzle, the smaller son, is dressed in black, while the older son is shown in military dress.
You can make paper dolls to create any period from our past, to the current styles. Researching and making the paper versions of the clothes worn during the past is a great project. Have fun!
