The Competitive Exhibit Modern categories cover all dolls since 1920 so include what are considered vintage dolls as well as contemporary.
When attending Convention, be sure to sign up for the Highlight Tours of the Competitive Exhibits. These are conducted by judges after the ribbons are presented so these volunteers can explain about the different categories, answer questions and inform you about why the winners were chosen. Volunteering as a monitor or clerk is also educational, but I’ve heard that the Apprentice Judge Program is the best way to become an expert in dolls while giving back valuable service to UFDC.
Here are pictures taken by Diane Root of almost every category in this years’ Competitive Exhibit Modern (categories 201-276 in the Competitive Exhibit Booklet). A big thank you to Susan Steirn, the Modern Exhibit Chair and to all her volunteer helpers!
